History
With combined sales of over 1400 electron beam welders and hole drillers, PTR and its sister divisions are the largest supplier of electron beam welding (EBW) and drilling equipment in the world. PTR's long history of continuous leadership in the field of high-energy beam (HEB) technology has allowed us to accomplish a number of "firsts" in the field of Electron beam welding:
- first precision high vacuum EB welding unit
- first production partial vacuum EB welding unit
- first production nonvacuum EB welding unit
|
- first E-braze process
- first EB deep welding of TiAl (Gamma Titanium Aluminide)
- first HEB welding of engineered/tailored blanks

- Hamilton Standard 1959 - 1976
-
In the late 1950's Hamilton Standard (now Hamilton Sundstrand) in Windsor Locks, CT obtained the rights to manufacture electron beam welders (EBW) from Zeiss in Stuttgart, Germany. A few years later HSD licensed the EB technology with Nippon Electric (Japan), Hawker-Siddeley Dynamics (England) and Leybold-Heraeus (Germany).

- Leybold-Heraeus 1976 - 1989
-
In the mid-1970's, Hamilton sold the electron beam welding business to Leybold and they moved the engineering and manufacturing staff associated with the EBW business at HSD from Windsor Locks to its present location in Enfield, CT.

- PTR-Precision Technologies 1989 - Present
-
In the late 1980's, the Enfield operation was acquired from Leybold by PTR-Precision Technologies and continues to operate as a member of the Global Beam Technologies (GBT) Group, its present day owner.
