Minimum heat input with weld very close to internal bladder.
Application:
Hydraulic Accumulator for Automotive Industry
Welding Process:
Partial Vacuum EBW
EB System:
60 KV Production System (Indexing Table Style)
Requirements:
Alloy steel weld with approximately 0.180” (9 mm) weld depth to hermetically seal accumulator housing. The part design established the location of the circumferential joint at a position very close to a synthetic bladder and therefore required a minimum heat input and exacting penetration. The overall housing geometry of curved surfaces without good holding reference locations made beam to seam positioning control problematic
Solution:
A high speed, automated electron beam welding system operating at 60KV performs this critical weld in production. Regulated beam power and precise electron beam parameter controls guarantee a consistent weld profile while an automatic seam locating system assures accurate positioning of the beam to the joint even if part geometry is inconsistent.
